what we do
Sprout Enterprise® increases our artisan partners’ profitability and the wages earned by artisans while empowering artisans to build and manage their own enterprises, creating value through owning their brand and distribution channels.
We develop and work with in-country teams to manage online operations for direct sale and distribution of these product lines. Leveraging the Sprout platform, we create a virtual supply chain providing a branded presence for our partners in international markets. By eliminating the traditional intermediaries and costs of export/import models, our partners capture additional profit margin through this direct-to-buyer model.
Our artisan partners pay rural artisans living wages to produce handcrafted products, and then manage the warehousing, distribution and sale of these artisan products. Employment is created in the local community to handle sales and distribution functions for international customers, rather than in the US or Europe.
We believe that more than a living wage is necessary to alleviate poverty. Our theory of social change is based in asset ownership and empowerment – that not just production, but ownership and control of productive assets is necessary. Profit-sharing and ownership stakes are part of our vision for this network of artisan enterprises.
