  • Handspun Alpaca Yarn - Naturally Dyed

Experience the rich heritage and exquisite craftsmanship of Awamaki’s handspun alpaca yarn, made from 100% Peruvian alpaca fiber. This yarn is carefully spun using the ancestral Andean technique with a traditional puska—a large spinning tool used since pre-Inca times.

Our artisan partners begin learning to spin as young as 6 years old, mastering this essential skill before moving on to weaving. Each skein carries the authentic handmade quality and unique character that only handspun yarn can offer.

Each hand-dyed yarn is colored using natural dyes derived from cochineal insects and eucalyptus plants.

Thyme: A muted, earthy green inspired by high Andean herbs and wild mountain growth. Dyed using eucalyptus leaves, thyme echoes the quiet resilience of the landscape it comes from, bringing a grounded, natural depth to stitchwork.

Heather: A soft, heathered purple with gentle variation throughout the fiber, reminiscent of wild blooms across Andean hillsides. Dyed with cochineal, heather is a colored neutral with a calm, smoky floral tone, understated and naturally elegant in knits.

Carnation: A warm, hand-dyed pink inspired by native florals and celebratory color traditions. Also derived from cochineal, carnation feels expressive yet earthy, bringing a soft vibrancy that highlights texture and stitch work beautifully.
