The Oaxaca artisans of Colectivo 1050° come from San Bartolo Coyotepec, known for its enigmatic black clay; San Marcos Tlapazola, where Zapotec women create smooth shapes in red clay; and Santa María Atzompa, well-known masters of glazed pottery with a millenary tradition. Potters from more than seven pottery communities are members of this cooperative based in southern México.
Colectivo 1050° emulates conscious sustainable design, using lead-free materials and strives to minimize the environmental impact in all of its production processes. The cooperative is affiliated with Innovando la Tradición, a non-profit organization that works painstakingly to keep the pottery tradition alive.
