These fine cotton handwoven shawls are produced by weavers participating in Kala Swaraj's Magtha Project in the Chhindwara district of Madya Pradesh. While the region has a long history of weaving, less than 500 weaving families continue this tradition.
The mulmul cotton fabrics traditionally produced in this region are the first type of fabric that Kala Swaraj and the weavers have chosen to renovate and find new markets for. These beautiful, fine cotton fabrics have a soft feel and excellent drape, making them wonderful textiles for light weight clothing and accessories.
